TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION
Goal-Setting & Recommended USAGE
- Set a goal with students to complete 5-8 lessons per week. [K-2 lessons are 5-8 min. & 3-8 lessons are 8-12 min. each.]
- Establish a LESSON ROUTINE with a minimum of 20 minutes per session to ensure students have opportunity to complete lessons.
- Monitor UNIQUE LESSON COMPLETION with CLASSROOM SUMMARY REPORT. [Filter calendar date down to weekly time frame]
- Celebrate milestones & goal achievement with students! Let them know you are tracking & excited about their progress!
- Integrate Financial Literacy. Teach them about value of Savings. Encourage students to save coins they earn in Dreambox lessons to reach a class goal.
Key Learning STRATEGIES In Dreambox Learning Environments
- Spend majority of time learning NEW Math in ADVENTURE PARK (K-2) or 'MY LESSONS' (3-8).
- K-2 students should focus and complete of NEW LESSONS [icons FLASHING YELLOW]. Do at least 2-3 as general routine. All lesson in 3-8 environments are next best lessons.
- Use HELP & HINT Buttons when needed for repeated directions & added scaffolding
> HELP Button: Hear directions stated another way. If they need additional information, they can click the Hint button.
> HINT Button: Suggestions about how to solve a problem during lesson. Hints correspond with section of problem that students need to complete 1st. - Goal is for students is to reach level of applying ‘most efficient strategies’ for solving math problems. Students should NOT ‘abandon’ lesson or click out when math becomes difficult.
- Be Persistent! TRY all the ways they can to figure out problems. MISTAKES are OKAY! Wrong answers point student to next best lesson on the pathway.
- PAPER/PENCIL not recommended for students. Dreambox analyzes click by click student’s thinking & students are assessed by using data collected from their completed lessons.
Teacher TOOLS to Support Independent Thinking
- Dreambox is NOT collaborative, but teacher tools can be used with small groups or whole class to support learning within FACE-TO-FACE COLLABORATIVE LESSONS.
- Interactive Teacher TOOLS & LESSONS provide a great opportunity to model key learning strategies we want students to use in Dreambox Learning Environments also.
REPORTS for Progress-Monitoring & Celebrating Milestones
Reports are our REAR VIEW mirror to allow us to see gaps as they appear while students work through content
CLASSROOM USAGE: View weekly usage, lessons and units completed. Monitor weekly UNIQUE LESSON COMPLETION. [Filter calendar date down to weekly time frame]. Set weekly and classroom goals and celebrate milestones [# of unique lessons completed, Unit completion]
CLASSROOM SUMMARY: Use notification flags to identify students working inefficiently or struggling that require additional support. Be sure to restrict to ENGAGEMENT AREAS if students are clicking in/out of lessons OR too much time spent outside of learning content.
--> STUDENT DETAIL REPORT: See a detailed picture of the different areas a student has completed, is working on, or has not started and see details description of notification sources on individual students to determine next steps.
STUDENT PROGRESS BY STANDARD: View which standards each student has completed, is currently working on, or has not started and see bird's eye view or strong or weak areas across the classroom by standard or domain.
STUDENT GROUPS BY PROFICIENCY: Identify groups of students who have completed a concept with proficiency, who are currently working on that concept, and those who have not started. Leverage this report for lesson planning and small group instruction.
PROGRESS MONITORING REPORT: Track individual student growth over time. Educators can get actionable information about a student’s response to intervention within a multi-tiered system of support.
